“He who has perceived the meaning of change fixes his attention no longer on the transitory individual things but on the immutable, eternal law at work in all changes”. – Lao tze.
I Ching Consulting
What is I Ching
I Ching, also called “the Book of Change”, is the world’s oldest oracle. The Wikipedia will tell you the whole background about it, but here is my version of what it is:
I Ching is a collection of great wisdom from more than 2600 years of many many generations’ efforts. It uses 64 hexagrams to explain 64 interconnected categories of situations in the universe. All is to understand and illustrate the change and the personal influence in it. The I Ching connects the outer world and inner world seamlessly. It reveals the great wisdom about what a man can do to respond to what arises between heaven and earth, from situation to situation, from moment to moment.
It believes that the law of the universe lies in the law of changes – which is 1)Change is constantly present; 2) There is non-changing law at work in all changes. 3) Understands the order in all changes in the outer universe, man can apply similarly to the inner universe. In this way a man’s behaviour is in alignment with himself, the outer world and the changes. This brings the good fortune and the misfortune hence avoided.
What is I Ching consulting
I Ching consulting is a combination between I Ching reading and Coaching. In an I Ching consulting session, the coach is going to draw upon the collective wisdom of the great Book of Change, using the hexagrams you generated by yourself (nothing is just “by chance” by the way), and form a dialogue between the "sage" from the Book of Change and your own deepest creative source.
(It’s an experience gained from walk the talk. I find it extremely clarifying and empowering especially in challenging situation or when I am facing difficult choices. It not only helps me arrive at the clarity for what to do in a specific situation, but also in a long run expand my inner ability to respond to changes. I hope for what it has benefited me, it can benefit more people).
For whom?
I Ching consulting is for those who wishes to navigate through changes. And it works the best if you have a situation that really matters to you. It can be a difficult decision you are facing either in private or at work, it can be conflict or stuckness in your relationship you wish to improve, or it can be a lack of clarity from within you wish to explore... Just imagine you have an opportunity to encounter and dialogue with an old sage with 2600 years of wisdom. What question would you bring to discover your truth for the situation you are in?
Requirements?
It works the best for those who:
-
Desire to learn
-
Open-minded to learn in an entirely new way
-
Committed to work on inner attitude (which will surely influence your action and ultimately the result)
It works the least for those who:
-
Seek quick medicine for their problems.
-
Coming only for advice, not for a dialogue.
-
Want to merely predict the future rather than seek guidance to work on the inner attitude.
What can I Ching Consulting do for you?
Attitude nurtures thoughts, thoughts lead to action, action forms habit, and habit carves character which then defines your destiny. So to influence the result, the leading from within must start with the attitude and match it with situational awareness. I Ching consulting will not make decision for you, but by pointing out the most beneficial attitude and the potential cause effect, by laying out the inter-connectedness of the “things”, the “events” and the changes from the inner and outer world, you will have the clarity and the wisdom from within to arrive at your own conclusion what is the right thing to do.
How does it work?
Each I Ching consulting session can last from1 to 1.5 hours depend on your situation and also depend on how deep and comprehensive the consultation you wish to conduct. It will begin with forming a clear question. The clearer and more non-ambiguous a question is, the clearer the answer can be generated. Then you will be guided to generate a set of hexagrams which contains great wisdom and advice for examining your inner attitute correspond to your situation.
Using the hexagrams, you will be guided to look at the situation from different angels: surface (your subjective view), hidden (the key issue of the situation), complementing (different angel of looking at your situation), opposing (from the opposite side to look at your situation), and future (potential outcome). You see, it’s like looking at a prism shifting your position swiftly and making connection among the different views you are presented constantly. Your most resourceful self will be activated . It polishes your inner lens to look at the world. With that clarity and the nourished inner attitude, your action will grow from this fertile ground of its own accord sailing steadily through the changes.
Cost
The I Ching consulting session costs 189.- Euro (tax included).
What do people say about it?
“A truly innovative take on an ancient art form to offer new insights into pressing questions”
- Sheila Butterly
" I recently consulted the I Ching with the help of Qi Zhang. I wanted to make sense of a dilemma I was facing. I was immediately struck by the unfamiliar cultural context of the consultation but I was open to the experience and very surprised by the results. The I Ching draws on ancient Chinese wisdom that cuts across cultural boundaries and time. The direction that was provided to me enhanced my ability to access in myself a place of greater wisdom and it opened up new possibilities that I was unaware of. I believe the I Ching holds great promise to anyone that is open to it and Qi has the wisdom and skill to draw on it within a contemporary framework of coaching and counselling”.

"What need has nature of thought or care?
When the sun goes, the moon comes.
Cold and heat alternate.
The past contracts, the future expands.
When you can understand the transformations,
you lift your nature to the level of the miraculous."
